the history of society is a history of class struggle free and slave, patrician pleb, serf and lord oppressive and hostile in our era it's the bourgeoisie and the proletariat from the pillage of the rest of the world came its rapid development all that is solid melts into air the holy is profane the ancient and venerable is swept away with all fixed, fast frozen relations a spectre is haunting Europe the spectre of communism the rich have aligned themselves for holy exorcism but the bourgeoisie's unfit to rule it can't contain its own contradictions in the working class that it creates it makes it's own gravediggers a spectre is haunting Europe the spectre of communism the rich have aligned themselves for holy exorcism workers of the world unite! we will not conceal our views let every master tremble! there's only our chains to lose

all she had to give her strength of will for socialism in the street she was killed never 'i cannot' always 'i must' Red Rosa, weary, worn with work we place our trust master of herself leader of others hard to the outside world caring to caterpillars a theoretician but funny and sharp thirsty for knowledge and love and nature and art she was the sword she was the fire for revolution she made a sacrifice she was the sword she was the fire for revolution she gave a sacrifice a receptive mind erudite in words rooted in everyday life no suffering unheard Rosa, forever, the greatest of us all that she gave no words can express she was the sword she was the fire for revolution she made a sacrifice she was the sword she was the fire for revolution she gave a sacrifice

in march 1919 was born a new body a child conceived in the fire of revolutionary victory and defeat and remedy in recognition that we can't win this fight unless we unite, coordinate our plans so off we throw the yoke of bloody capital this body will be the third international so honour we the martyrs of Paris the foundations for us in that edifice the world will fight for the rights of the working classes sold out by the tides of nationalists gave support to the war to restore the capitalist profits of the rich through the blood of the frontline masses workers betrayed, into the flames of a cataclysm now we awake, throw out the fake leaders of socialism turn attention to create a new third international we grow, we overthrow, in the ground we sow the final battle all over the world there is a turn to revolutionary struggle like the ocean tide the working class will build atop the rubble world we can be heard we can emerge create a new regime in which the mighty rich no longer hitch us to their doom machine all over the world there is a turn to revolutionary struggle like the ocean tide the working class will build atop the rubble world we can be heard we can emerge create a new regime in which the mighty rich no longer hitch us to their doom machine oh capital will fall! this is the third, communist international

if correct ideas we want to find do they drop from the skies? are they innate in the mind? no, if correct ideas we wanna find they come from social practice alone production, class struggle and science it's our social being that determines what we know and from that practice comes the correct ideas the first stage is what we take from the world the second is where we apply and from that stage we see how the ideas worked and from there we refine the correct ideas don't come from a great mind they come directly out of our lives the correct ideas come from all of us combined the lessons we take from the fight if correct ideas we want to find do they drop from the skies? are they innate in the mind? no, if correct ideas we wanna find the correct ideas don't come from a great mind they come directly out of our lives the correct ideas come from all of us combined the lessons we take from the fight

at the risk of seeming ridiculous let me say, the true revolutionary is guided by great great feelings of love, great feelings of love and we must idealize this love for the class struggle we must strive every day so that this love is acted on and transformed into acts of living humanity and revolution to serve as a force for justice and truth in the world we bring forth the true revolutionary is guided by love the true revolutionary is guided by love the true revolutionary is guided by love and we place nothing else ahead, nothing else above this love must be deep enough to spam the world for if we stop short of what is immediate and urgent the enemy will take advantage of our drowsiness and will tear down all we built and bring upon us our death we know that sacrifice lie ahead, there is a price for leading the masses to victory against the enemies of life but we are free because in struggle we are fulfilled and we are fulfilled because we struggle to be free the true revolutionary is guided by love the true revolutionary is guided by love the true revolutionary is guided by love and we place nothing else ahead, nothing else above the skeleton of our freedom has been formed the flesh and clothing we must now bring forth but the road is long and in part unknown and we must make ourselves new and place upon the youth our hope all of society must be turned into a school we can muster emotion for a moment but our consciousness is the tool for a transformation of the way in which we live and relate to one another and the earth and what it gives the true revolutionary is guided by love the true revolutionary is guided by love the true revolutionary is guided by love and we place nothing else ahead, nothing else above

why is Angela Davis a communist? cos I have a very strong love for people who are oppressed I want to see my people free, I want to see all people free and the only way to do that is to be a revolutionary why is Angela Davis a communist? I want to build a society where the needs and the interests and the wishes of all people can be respected I am a communist because I want to make that happen when I was on the streets and fighting for my job whenever I spoke to black people very few people had hangups about communism the word was never treated like it was evil and I remember many times walking down the street and having someone stop me and say 'are you Angela Davis' and I would say yes, and they would express their solidarity and sisters and brothers would say 'well I don't really know what communism is but we know there must be something good about it because the man is coming down so hard on you' the black community is not afraid, they are not hostile there is desire, desire and curiosity too this country tries to keep our sisters and brothers away from true understanding so when people ask me about communism it is with urgency and demanding why is Angela Davis a communist? cos I have a very strong love for people who are oppressed I want to see my people free, I want to see all people free and the only way to do that is to be a revolutionary why is Angela Davis a communist? I want to build a society where the needs and the interests and the wishes of all people can be respected I am a communist because I want to make that happen

we must speak, if we don't, our hearts will burst our tears shall not infiltrate the truth even if it hurts we freedom fighters do not mourn the death of a man not even a man who was an exemplary revolutionary and comrade we don't mourn the people of Ghana we are not crying for Africa betrayed we mourn Nkrumah the greatest strategist of colonized places but all coins in life have two faces that we were betrayed speaks to our success Nkrumah was killed by the cancer of betrayal, betrayal yes, betrayal we must root out of Africa to crush the domination of the imperial because what is man in front of the infinite being and transgression of the people? we don't mourn the people of Ghana we are not crying for Africa betrayed we mourn Nkrumah the greatest strategist of colonized places but all coins in life have two faces we believe the dead live beside us and Nkrumah will arise each dawn in the hearts of all African patriots we will not forget those who betray Ghana and Africa humanity will not forgive the betrayal of our brother, Kwame Nkrumah we don't mourn the people of Ghana we are not crying for Africa betrayed we mourn Nkrumah the greatest strategist of colonized places but all coins in life have two faces

it's not just weapons that are our weapons it's thoughts, the science of Marxism-Leninism we're not simply importing theory from Russia or China we are developing our analysis for the liberation of Palestine we don't just copy revolution from here or there we take what is useful and applicable anywhere and then we adapt it to our specific conditions and we are part of the third world, and with its struggles we build bridges sometimes I am asked if I am a terrorist rather than answer I have a question to pose to this who was it who planted terrorism in our land? came to our home? forced us to leave? threw us in camps? this is what terrorism truly is does the asker of that questions expect us not to resist we use what means we can to deliver our freedom this is the struggle against Israeli terrorism the plane hijackings were tactical just for a short time, just to ring a bell the world needs to ask the question why we are not refugees, we are the people of Palestine I have a cause higher and nobler than myself to this cause I subordinate everything else I have a cause higher and nobler than myself to this cause I subordinate everything else we cannot call our resistance nonviolent to do so would be to forego all our rights what we are facing is an Apartheid state when the balance of forces changes we can negotiate

the perspective of this book is Indigenous I am Métis, to colonialism in all dimensions I am witness I write this book of our history and our struggle against Canadian tyranny the struggle is long and the risk is high it must be without respite or compromise racism and capitalism will hold us captive until we recognize the power in ourselves and enact it there is no easy way out of oppression except long, hard, bitter, violent succession liberation is made in a state of revolution there is no easy way out of oppression except long, hard, bitter, violent succession liberation is made in a state of revolution

the devil came here yesterday it smells of sulphur still today at this table I'm standing in front of excuse me while I make a sign of the cross the president of the United States came here talking like he owns this place and wants to preserve the domination and pillage of every country, city, town, and village the president is selling the devil's recipe of global exploitation and hegemony but we can't allow them to do that America is the greatest threat looming over this planet America is the greatest threat looming over this planet

about

Have you ever wished you could listen to the Communist Manifesto as a 4-minute indie pop song awash in bright, clean, dreamy electric guitars? Me too.

This album actually began when I found the audio clip of Lenin's 1919 speech. I immediately set to work crafting the speech into lyrics that would suit a 60s/70s folk ballad, something you might hear from Pete Seegar or early Bob Dylan. But when I started putting the song together, I didn't think it was well-suited to an acoustic guitar, so I flipped over to clean electrics and suddenly it all felt right.

From there I decided I wanted to expand it into an album drawing from some of my favourite revolutionary theorists, and I kept the same setup for the whole album. As the electric guitars piled up, I decided to make it something like a Paul Simon album from the 80s, just shimmering with clean guitars while a simple melody ran through the middle.

The album is loosely chronological and features audio clips wherever they were available for public use. The artwork is arguably the best part of this album, conceived and crafted by my old friend Michael. Nearly everyone you hear about in the songs is present in the artwork.
