when everything is going to shit feels like there's no way to stop it but now's not the time to retreat or there'll be fascists running the streets but god I need something to believe sure I got Lenin and Mao tucked under my sleeve but this ain't 1949 or 17 a new, new, new left won't manifest until we do something man, you gotta read less and do more it's in the struggle that the politics form the right line, you'll know it when you see it you got any fight left in that heart. gotta free it but god I need something to believe sure I got Malcolm and Patrice tucked under my sleeve but this ain't 1959 or 63 a new, new, new left won't manifest until we do something

it's a beautiful autumn sunday in high park the ducks are quacking, the squirrels are chirping, the dogs are barking I'm in my denim jacket and bright white dad sneakers scouting perfect angles of the setting sun for my pictures you could almost forget that the world is such a mess here it's just the trees and the leaves and the birds and egrets a general sense of peace can wash right over me and I'm just here with the world as it should be the only thing missing is you you, you, you, you with the name of every bird and what they do oh you, dragging me back to somewhere I lose track of everything but the silhouette of every minute moving too fast and for each one as it's passed I wanna write down every detail so I never forget that this is how it is when two souls truly coexist I know you're thinking 'come on it can't really be that great' 'you're in the first blush but time will pass and it'll change' but I'm here to tell you that I don't give a fuck I've been around long enough to know that yeah sometimes things blow up but it's almost 2022 and all around us shit is blowing up if I want to worry about the future there's already more than enough no I'm accepting this present for the beautiful thing it is I'm feeling good tonight, there's only one thing that I miss the only thing missing is you you, you, you, you with the name of every bird and what they do oh you, dragging me back to somewhere I lose track of everything but the silhouette of every minute moving too fast and for each one as it's passed I wanna write down every detail so I never forget that this is how it is when two souls truly coexist

I'm gonna pause and appreciate the beauty of this world and of a blue heron seen through a pair of binoculars and a squirrel coming to visit with his little paws held together and wood ducks and mallards all paired off in twos in the water and seeing all these things with a hand holding mine a hand I wanted to hold for a very long time life doles out a lot of shit and probably a lot more ahead so I'll take a good day like this and be grateful for it the scree of a red-tailed hawk rippling across the air a hermit thrush and a cardinal and a woodpecker a long list of invasive and non-invasive reeds and plants and a sweet pollinator flower from a garden above the ttc tracks and seeing all these things with a hand holding mine a hand I wanted to hold for a very long time life doles out a lot of shit and probably a lot more ahead so I'll take a good day like this and be grateful for it

bury me under a copy of capital one penguin edition cos in death I don't wanna forget the one thing on which I was always consistent bereave me abolishing the gods and the bosses no re-plastering cos the structure is rotten but I don't wanna go it alone so until I'm resting under the paving stone would you keep me close cos it's a long class war and I want you more than forty linen or two coats believe me if I could be anyone, anywhere, anyway to be alive without dead time in paris, in may, in 1968 but I don't wanna go it alone so until I'm resting under the paving stone would you keep me close cos it's a long class war and I want you more than forty linen or two coats
